Close cooperation with the WEF
Vietnam and the WEF have cooperated since 1989. Over the past 3 decades, Vietnam has frequently proposed new ideas and implemented cooperative programs. Vietnam and the WEF organized a successful WEF for East Asia in 2010 and a WEF on the Mekong Region in 2016.
Vietnam’s Organization Board for WEF-ASEAN 2018, headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, will collaborate with the WEF on reception, logistics, and topics for discussion.
“The theme “ASEAN 4.0: Entrepreneurship and the 4th Industrial Revolution” reflects a practical current affair and a shared interest of the ASEAN countries. It’s related to ASEAN’s topic for this year: building a self-reliant and creative ASEAN Community. The forum will be an opportunity to discuss and prepare for the 4th industrial revolution.” Son said.
Vietnam: a bridge for regional connectivity and integration
ASEAN countries have been steadily progressing toward their goals of economic integration and building a dynamic ASEAN Community. They have worked together to realize the theme “ASEAN's self-reliance and creativity”, proposed by Singapore, ASEAN’s Chair for this year.
Facing huge opportunities and challenges from the 4th industrial revolution, each country has to choose its integration vision and orientation. WEF President Borge Brender said the WEF values very much the special partnership with Vietnam. They have high political and business interest with ASEAN and Vietnam. ASEAN countries can implement technology quite fast in all areas.
Vietnam and ASEAN can greatly benefit from digital technology, the Internet of things, and artificial intelligence. Hosting WEF-ASEAN 2018 demonstrates Vietnam’s active and responsible role in ASEAN and raise its prestige and status internationally.
